Former Home Minister Khand arrested in Fake Bhutanese refugee scam

KATHMANDU: Former Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand has been arrested on Monday.

According to a police source, Khand was nabbed from his residence this morning.

Khand was dragged into controversy after an audio of his wife Manju receiving money in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam was leaked.

Likewise, police also nabbed Khand’s personal secretary Narendra KC from Chabahil today in connection with the scam.

Earlier, the police detained several individuals including the then Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, the security advisor of the then Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, and Sandeep Rayamajhi, son of CPN-UML Secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, in connection with this case.

Top Bahadur Rayamjhi, however, has gone out of contact after the Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against him and his son.

Meanwhile,  Khand and KC are being detained at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Teku.
