PM Dahal wins vote of confidence, garners 268 votes

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal won the vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

Dahal garnered 268 votes in the 270-member Parliament while only two lawmakers cast votes against him.

As many as 270 lawmakers participated in the voting process, according to senior lawmaker Pashupati Sumsher J.B. Rana, who presided over today’s house meeting as Speaker.

PM Dahal received an unprecedented vote of confidence with the support of almost all political parties in the House. Out of 12, he had the support of 10 political parties.

Parties including Nepali Congress, CPN (United Socialist), and Lokatantrik Samajbadi Party, who did not support Dahal when he was appointed the prime minister, also voted in favour of him.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari had appointed Dahal as Prime Minister on December 25. He had the support of 169 lawmakers of the House of Representatives.
