Domestic flights affected due to low visibility

KATHMANDU: Domestic flights have been affected due to low visibility in Terai-Madhes.

According to the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), flights were affected due to poor visibility at the airports except Bhadrapur, Pokhara, Dhangadi, Surkhet and Lumlingtar.

TIA Spokesperson Teknath Sitaula said that domestic flights could be affected in airports in Terai areas for a few more days due to low visibility.

Buddha Air’s Information Officer Dipendra Kumar Karna said that flights in most of the airports in Terai were affected since this morning due to low visibility.

Some airports are expected to open the operation after 12:00 pm, he said, adding that passengers have been facing problems to reach their destination due to the same.

There are around 300 domestic flights on a daily basis. Buddha Air alone operates the highest number of flights in a day which is around 150 flights followed by Yeti Airlines with 58 flights.

Altogether 20 air operator companies including 11 helicopter companies have been conducting domestic flights at present.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said that some places in the Terai belt have been experiencing foggy weather today.

Hilly areas in Gandaki, Lumbini, Province 1 and Bagmati Province will be partially cloudy while weather will remain generally fair in remaining provinces.
