Absconding murder convict nabbed after 17 years

KATHMANDU: Govinda Magar (40) of Belka Municipality-6 has been arrested from Saudi Arabia, 17 years after the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) issued a red corner notice against him.

A police team deployed from the Interpol of Nepal Police rounded up Magar, who had been absconding after being convicted of murder, and brought him to Nepal on Wednesday.

Nepal Police had issued a red corner notice after receiving an arrest warrant from the District Court Udayapur on the charge of murdering Man Bahadur Tamang on November 28, 2004.

After receiving the permission, the Area Police Office, Rampur Thoksila through the Interpol of Nepal Police requested the Interpol General Secretariat to issue a red corner notice to arrest him.

Later, the Interpol General Secretariat issued the red corner notice on February 8, 2021.

The Interpol of Nepal Police said that Magar has been sent to the Area Police Office, Rampur Thoksila, udayapur for investigation.
