Five arrested for trying to settle rape case

KAILALI:  Police on Sunday arrested five persons, including the accused, for attempting to settle a rape case by paying some cash to the victim’s family in Ghodaghodi Municipality-4, Kailali. 

The arrestees have been identified as Yagya Raj Acharya (53), former ward secretary of Ghodaghodi municipality-4, ward member Laxmi Neupane (54), local teacher Hom Prasad Subedi (53), Raju Bhattrai (34) and the rape accused Prakash Subedi (30), DSP Ved Prakash Joshi, Spokesperson at the District Police Office, Kailai, said. 

According to police, Subedi raped a 77-year-old woman of the same locality on December 1.

Following the incident, they had tried to settle the case by promising an amount of Rs 300,000 to the victim.

The incident came to light after the victim filed a complaint at the Area Police Office, Sukhad on December 27, said DSP Joshi. 

Police are looking into the case.
