1 killed, 12 injured in Jhapa cylinder explosion

JHAPA: A woman died and twelve others sustained injuries after a cooking gas cylinder exploded at Peepalchok in Mechinagar Municipality-7 of Jhapa on Wednesday.

Sharada Rajbanshi (45) of Mechinagar-8 lost her life when the cylinder exploded while she was trying to douse the fire that broke out at the house of Keshav Pathak last night, DSP Basanta Pathak, spokesperson at the District Police Office, Jhapa, said.

Critically injured Sharada died on the way to Dhulabari for treatment.

The house was completely destroyed in the fire.

Similarly, Gobinda Prasad Rajbanshi (29) of Birtamod-9, Dipendra Karki (32) of Mechinagar-7, Chandan Gautam (38), Suba Lal Rajbanshi (40), Binod Giri (35), Nawaraj Shrestha (35), Sandesh Bohara (23), Bhawani Shankar Neupane (40), Hari BK (36), Nirmal Sharma (36) and Lekhnath Timilsina (40) of Mechinagar-8 were injured in the incident, the District Police Office, Jhapa said.

Out of the injured, eleven are receiving treatment at the B & C Hospital in Birtamod while Sushila Adhikari (8) of Mechinagar-8 has already returned home after receiving primary treatment.

Police personnel with the help of locals and a fire engine of the municipality took the fire under control at around 10:30 pm yesterday.
