2 killed, 62 injured in Panchthar bus accident

PHIDIM: Two persons died and 62 others sustained injuries in a bus accident at Sarkhande in Phidim Municipality, Panchthar district on Monday.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be established.

Incapicated in the incident, a woman and a child breathed their last during the course of treatment at the Samarpit Hospital.

Information Officer at the District Hospital Narayan Joshi said that among the injured, who were undergoing treatment at the District Hospital, have been referred to a hospital in Jhapa. Preparations are underway to send 10 persons, who were receiving medical treatment at the Samarpit and Pathivara Hospital, to other hospitals.

Of the injured, who were undergoing treatment at the Samarpit Hospital, have already returned home after receiving primary treatment.

The incident occurred when the ill-fated bus (Ko 1 Kha 3865) heading towards Jhapa from Shivadobhan, Phidim-4 fell some 20 metres down the road at around 11:30 am today.

Police said that the tragedy occurred when the bus tried to overtake another vehicle on the narrow road.
