Torrential rainfall inundates Biratnagar Airport

KATHMANDU: Flights to and from the Biratnagar Airport have been obstructed as the torrential rainfall for the past three days inundated the airport area.

The runway and parking area among other places were submerged after the flooded Kesaliya River gushed into the airport.

Buddha and Yeti Airlines have suspended all the flights to Kathmandu from Biratngar after the obstruction, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.

The Buddha Airlines had been operating 11-13 flights daily to this destination.

The Airlines said that they are planning to add more flights to Bhadrapur as an alternative to Biratngar.

The Buddha Airlines has been operating five flights daily from Bhadrapur.

Dipendra Kumar Karna, Information Office at the Buddha Airlines, said that preparations are underway to add some flights to Bhadrapur with the assistance of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.
