Prez Bhandari authenticates Appropriation Bill; paves way for govt to spend budget

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari authenticated the Appropriation Bill on Thursday after it was passed by both houses of the Parliament.

President Bhandari authenticated the bill as per Article 113 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.

The bill, which was passed by the House of Representatives on September 20, was endorsed by the National Assembly today.

The government approved the bill amidst sloganeering by the main opposition CPN-UML lawmakers.

The lawmakers have been obstructing the House since the very first meeting of the ongoing session demanding that 14 lawmakers expelled from the party and defected to the CPN (Unified Socialist) be removed from the post of lawmakers.

Earlier on September 9, the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government presented the Replacement Bill in the second meeting of the House of Representatives amid protest from the CPN-UML to replace the budget brought by the erstwhile KP Sharma Oli government through ordinance.

After the government failed to endorse the budget on time due to the protest from the opposition party, the government had to face a ‘budget holiday’ for some days.

Endorsement of the bill ended the budget holiday witnessed since September 15.
