Flood sweeps away two bridges in East Nawalparasi

RUPANDEHI. Two concrete bridges in Baudikali village of East Nawalparasi have been swept away by the flood after incessant rains for the past three days.

A concrete bridge under construction in Baudikali Village Municipality-1 has collapsed. Pradip Chandra Subedi, chief administrative officer of the village municipality said another concrete bridge in Kaligandaki was also swept away by the flood.

The bridge was being constructed in Ward No. 1 at a cost of Rs 35 million by the Gandaki province government. Chief Subedi said that the bridge was swept away by the flood while only the slope work was left to complete. A bridge was built to make it easier for locals to reach the district headquarters Kawasoti. Direct access to the district headquarters has been disrupted after the bridge collapsed.

Locals have to walk 45 kilometres to reach the district headquarters. This has become a problem for those who have to go for treatment.

Similarly, the bridge at Kaligandaki in Ward No. 2 of the village municipality has also been swept away by the flood. The locals used to reach Pokhara through this bridge. The locals will now have to walk for one day to reach Bhimad.
