Budget for Fiscal Year 2078/79

Social security allowance increased by 33%, old age allowance increased to 4,000

KATHMANDU: The government has increased social security allowances. The monthly allowance for senior citizens, single women and the disabled has been increased by 33 per cent.

Presenting the income statement for the fiscal year 2078/79, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudal informed that the social security allowance including old age allowance has been revised. He informed that Rs 100 crore has been allocated for this.

According to the Department of National Id and Civil Registration, 3,258,129 people across the country have been receiving social security allowances. Out of which, 17 lakh 39 thousand 359 people have been receiving an old-age allowance.

In the fiscal year 2051/52, the then Finance Minister of the CPN-UML, Bharat Mohan Adhikari, started giving old age allowance at the rate of Rs.100
