Prime Minister calls for meeting of Constitutional Council

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has convened a meeting of the Constitutional Council. According to sources, the meeting to be held at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar at 5 pm on Wednesday has agendas including recommending the names of new people in the various commissions.

Speaker Agni Sapkota returned the original copy of the recommendation sent for the parliamentary hearing and raised questions on the appointment process. The court has not heard the writ petition seeking repeal of the ordinance and appointment recommendation of the Constitutional Council.

Leader of the Opposition Sher Bahadur Deuba will not participate in the Constitutional Council meeting as his status is not constitutionally maintained after the dissolution of the House of Representatives. A source said that the participation of Speaker Agni Sapkota is also not certain. According to sources, Sapkota, who had boycotted two meetings earlier, is not likely to attend the meeting.
