Manisha Koirala requests all Nepalese to pay respects to Prithvi Narayan Shah
KATHMANDU: Actress Manisha Koirala has called for the celebration of the 299th birth anniversary of nation-builder Prithvi Narayan Shah as National Unity Day.
Koirala, who is also a member of the National Unity Day celebration committee formed at the grassroots level, urged all Nepali citizens to pay respects to Prithvi Narayan Shah.
January 11th (Poush 77) is the 299th birth anniversary of Prithvi Narayan Shah, the founder of the Shah dynasty. Even though the celebration of Prithvi Jayanti as a National Unity Day has been abandoned, there has been increasing pressure from the people to celebrate Prithvi Jayanti as a holiday.
Koirala said that they will gather at Shanti Batika of Ratna Park at 11 AM tomorrow and lay wreaths at the statue of Prithvi Narayan along with a tableau of Panche Baja and Dhime Bajagaja.
She said, “I would like to appeal to all the self-respecting Nepali citizens to pay their respects to Prithvi Narayan Shah for his incomparable contribution at Singha Durbar alongside the music from our original Panche Baja, Jhanki and Dhime Bajagaja, by gathering at Ratna Park, Shanti Vatika at 11 a.m. on the 27th of this month.’
