Hikmat Karki appointed chief minister of Koshi Province

BIRATNAGAR: Hikmat Kumar Karki has been appointed as the chief minister of Koshi Province.

This is the third entry of Karki in the Koshi Province.

Karki was appointed as the chief minister as per Article 168 (5) of the Constitution.

Province Chief Parshuram Khapung appointed Karki as the chief minister in the presence of 52 provincial assembly members of the CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN-UML.

Earlier, he was appointed as the chief minister on January 8, 2023 as per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution.

Karki, who was appointed as the chief minister with the support of UML, Maoist Center, CPN (Unified Socialist) and Janata Samajbadi Party, lost the position after failing to secure the vote of confidence during the floor test.

He, however, was reinstated with the mandamus order of the court after 70 days,

Karki, who was appointed as the chief minister as per Article 168 (3) of the Constitution resigned from his post, without facing a floor test at the provincial assembly.
