PM directs Home Minister to implement recommendations of commission to curb gold smuggling

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has directed the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane to implement the recommendations made by the high-level probe commission formed to investigate the recent cases of gold smuggling.

Receiving the report from the Deputy Prime Minister today, the PM instructed the Home Minister to ensure implementation of the recommendations made by the commission without being affected by anyone’s pressure.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister’s Secretariat, PM Dahal has also asked to create an environment conducive not to exempt the culprits and not to suffer the innocent ones.

Likewise, the PM has asked to advance the reform measures as pointed out by the commission’s report.

Following the PM’s instructions, the DPM has begun internal consultations for further steps in regard to the implementation of the report, the DPM’s Secretariat confirmed.

The commission submitted its report to DPM and Home Minister Lamichhane on Thursday.

The government on October 1, 2023 had formed the Commission led by former High Court Judge Dilliraj Acharya and Kishor Jung Karki, Prem Raj Joshi and former Additional Inspector General (AIG) Sahakul Thapa as the members of the commission.
