KATHMANDU: The Patan High Court has granted a written permission to cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane to fight the case from outside the jail.

The permission was granted soon after he filed an appeal at the High Court against the District Court’s verdict.

Lamichhane filed an appeal at the High Court this afternoon.

With the filing of the case, the registrar of the High Court granted a permission to the former national cricket team captain to fight the case by staying out of jail.

Lamichhane filed an appeal at the High Court expressing dissatisfaction over the decision of the District Court, his legal practitioner Saroj Ghimire said.

The Kathmandu District Court had sentenced Lamichhane to eight years in jail after being convicted of rape.

The court issued the verdict after he was proven guilty of raping a minor.

Lamichhane, however, has been pleading innocent in the case.

A single bench of Judge Shishir Raj Dhakal had pronounced the jail term of eight years against Lamichhane.
