Cricket Association of Nepal suspends Sandeep Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has suspended Sandeep Lamichhane from all the domestic and international cricket activities.

Issuing a statement on Thursday, CAN Chairman Chatur Bahadur Chand said that they decided to suspend Lamichhane after the Kathmandu District Court on Wednesday handed down an eight-year jail term after finding him guilty of rape.

A single bench of Justice Sishir Raj Dhakal also slapped a fine of Rs 3000, 000 and ordered Lamichhane to compensate the victim with Rs 200, 000.

Soon after the court delivered the verdict, Lamichhane wrote to the CAN and said that he would stay away from cricket until he gets clean chit.
