Coalition agrees to investigate Balkumari incident by forming high-level probe commission

KATHMANDU: The government is to form a high-level probe commission to investigate the Balkumari incident.

A meeting of the coalition held in Baluwatar on Sunday agreed to form a high-level probe commission under the leadership of a former judge.

Earlier, the Home Minister had formed a three-member probe commission to investigate the death of two youths at Balkumari in Lalitpur.

The Nepali Congress, however, raised questions on the committee saying that there would not be fair investigation.

Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has been directed to bring a proposal to form a high-level probe commission in accordance with Section 3 (2) of the Commissions of Inquiry Act-1969, Prime Minister Dahal’s press advisor Govinda Acharya said.

As the Cabinet meeting to be held on Monday will take a formal decision on the formation of the commission, the Prime Minister directed Home Minister Shrestha to bring the proposal as per the same.
