CCTV footage of only 21 days was found in TIA Customs Office: Probe committee

KATHMANDU: The CCTV footage of only 21 days was found to have been stored in the Customs Office of the Tribhuvan International Airport.

According to the law of Nepal, there is a provision to keep CCTV footage of three months.

During an investigation of the 14 kg gold smuggled into Nepal from Dubai on December 7, the probe committee said that the CCTV footage of only 21 days was found in the Customs Office.

Chandra Ghale of Gorkha was arrested with 14 kg of gold from the Tribhuvan International Airport on December 7.

The customs officials apprehended the 55-year-old Ghale soon after he landed in Kathmandu on a flydubai flight.

His travel history shows that he travelled to Dubai 52 times in a year.

A six-member probe committee was formed under the headship of Maniram Paudel, chief of the airport customs office to investigate the case.

The committee submitted the investigation report on Sunday.

On the occasion, Paudel said that the CCTV footage of only 21 days was found in the Customs Office.

He said that they did not even get the mobile numbers from which the passes were taken from the airport.
