Nepal qualify for T20 World Cup after defeating UAE by eight wickets

KATHMANDU: Nepal have been selected for the ICC T20 World Cup to be held in West Indies and the US next year.

Nepal secured the place at the T20 World Cup defeating in the UAE by eight wickets under the Asian Qualifier on Friday.

Nepal had played the World for the first and last time in 2014.

This is the only World Cup that Nepal have played in senior international cricket so far.

The T20 World Cup will be held from June 3 to 30. Twelver test and eight associated teams will take part in the tournament.

In the match played at the Mulpani Cricket Ground, Nepal prepared the basis of victory with brilliant bowling.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the UAE scored 134 runs in allotted 20 overs losing nine wickets.

In response, Nepal achieved the target in 17.1 overs losing two wickets.

Asif Sheikh scored unbeaten 63 runs and Rohit Paudel made unbeaten 35 runs. Similarly, Gulsan Khan and Kushal Bhurtel contributed 22 and 11 runs respectively.

Vritiya Aravind scored highest 64 runs for the UAE. Likewise, Muhammad Waseem, Alishan Sharafu and Asif Khan made 26, 16 and 13 runs respectively.

Kushal Malla of Nepal took wickets while Sandeep Lamichhane claimed two wickets.

Similarly, Sompal Kami and Rohit Paudel took one wicket each.

Earlier on Thursday, Nepal faced a five-run defeat at the hands of Oman.
