Nepal beat Maldives by 138 runs in Asian Games

KATHMANDU: Nepal reached quarter-finals of the men’s cricket tournament under the 19th Asian Games by defeating the Maldives on Sunday.

In the second group match, Nepal thrashed Maldives by 138 runs.

Chasing a target of 213 runs, Nepal restricted the Maldives to 74 runs.

Abinash Bohara of Nepal took six wickets to beat Maldives.

Similarly, Sompal Kami, Gulsan Jha, Sandeep Lamichhane and Kushal Bhurtel claimed one wicket each.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Nepal scored 212 runs by losing seven wickets in allotted 20 overs.

Captain Rohit Paudel scored 52 runs off 27 balls hitting three sixes and three fours and Gulsan Jha made 35 runs off 21 balls with three sixes and one four. Likewise, Kushal Malla scored unbeaten 47 runs off 20 balls hitting two sixes and three fous and Kushal Bhurtel 35 runs.

Only three batsmen of Maldives scored in double digits.
