House passes condolence motion on Nembang’s death

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday endorsed a condolence motion on the demise of Constituent Assembly Chairman and CPN-UML leader Subash Chandra Nembang.

The House unanimously passed the motion presented by Speaker Devraj Ghimire.

While presenting the motion, Speaker Ghimire said that Nembang’s death was an irreparable loss to the nation.

The meeting also extended condolences to the bereaved family and a minute of silence was also observed on the occasion.

He served a member of the National Assembly from the CPN-UML in 1991 and 1995, House of Representatives in 1999, re-stored Parliament and Legislative Parliament in 2006, transformed Legislative Parliament in 2015 and House of Representatives in 2022.

Nembang served as the Speaker of the restored Parliament in 2006, Speaker of the Legislative-Parliament 2006 and Chairman of the Constituent Assembly in 2008 and 2013.

He was also elected as the President of the Public Accounts Committee in 1999.

Nembang passed away on Tuesday due to a cardiac arrest. He was 71.

The next meeting of the Parliament has been scheduled for 1 pm on Friday.
