KMC announces holiday tomorrow to mourn death of Mukunda Rijal

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has declared a holiday for tomorrow.

Departmental Chief at the Administration Department Deepak Adhikari said that the KMC announced the holiday for all the offices under the metropolis tomorrow to mourn the death of Kathmandu metropolis ward-16 Chairman Mukunda Rijal.

He breathed his last during the course of treatment at the Dhapasi-based Grande International Hospital on Thursday.

He was elected as the chairman of Kathmandu metropolis-16 by garnering 4,007 votes in the local level elections held on May 13.

He defeated Laxmi Ratna Tuladhar of the CPN-UML.

After being elected as the chairman, one of his statements about waste management had become very popular.

He had a heated argument with Mayor Balen Shah in the first meeting of the Executive Committee on various issues like waste management.

Later, Mayor Shah had reached his residence to meet him.

Also, very active in social media, Rijal had floated a proposal to cut the salaries of people’s representatives and spend the money on development works.
