UML accuses government of misusing CIB in Lalita Niwas land grab case (With video)

KATHMANDU: The main opposition CPN-UML has accused the government of misusing the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police in the Lalita Niwas land grab case.

Speaking at the Parliament meeting on Tuesday, UML Chief Whip Padam Giri said that a strange kind of drama was staged in the Lalita Niwas land scam.

“The government does not carry out an investigation despite the court’s order to probe the leaders of the corruption. They were kept in custody for 60 days after being prosecuted for organized crime. What happened now? A case of forgery of government documents was filed against them at the Kathmandu District Court. If it was the case of forgery, why should they be kept in custody for 60 days? Why should the court keep them in custody? The government should give a clear answer,” he said.

The CIB has been misused in this case, he claimed.

“Police personnel who sent those involved in the Bhutanese refugee case to jail have been transferred. But lawmaker Sunil Sharma, who raised the voice saying that ruling parties’ leaders are involved in the gold smuggling, was arrested without warrant,” Giri said.
