Parties agree to form high-level inquiry commission after a month

KATHMANDU: The seven nationally recognized parties have agreed to form a high-level inquiry commission to investigate the gold smuggling case.

A meeting of the parties held in Singha Durbar on Wednesday agreed to form a commission after a month on September 22, Nepali Congress Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak said.

“The commission will be formed according to the Commission of Inquiry Act 2026,” he said, adding, “It is in the hands of the government to decide on the number of members in the commission.”

With this agreement, the House will open from today, Lekhak said.

The parties have agreed to form the commission only after a month after the CIB completes the investigation on the gold smuggling case.

CPN-UML Chief Whip Padam Giri said that it was agreed to form the commission only after a month for the CIB to continue its investigation.
