KATHMANDU: Police have apprehended a gang of drug smugglers involved in importing and distributing LSD in Nepal. The arrested individuals were found in possession of a substantial amount of illegal substances, including LSD, which is rarely encountered in Nepal.

The arrested are implicated in both the importation of LSD into Nepal and its distribution at various trance parties held in different locations.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team from the Narcotics Control Bureau conducted raids in various locations from June 11 to June 22, resulting in the arrest of numerous individuals, including some foreign nationals.

According to the Bureau, on June 20, police arrested Sugam Mainali (29) in Chandragiri, Kathmandu, with seven pieces of LSD stickers. Following Sugam’s arrest, the police proceeded to apprehend Mukhya Gurung, who was found in possession of 3,700 milligrams of cocaine.

With the assistance of Gurung, police arrested 26-year-old Bachhan, also known as Raj Gautam, in Biratnagar.

Superintendent of Police Chakraraj Joshi of the Bureau said that Gautam played a key role in organizing trance parties across various locations in Nepal and distributing LSD during these events.

Similarly, a total of 26 LSD stickers and 400 milligrams of methamphetamine were seized from Martina Sarna, a 32-year-old citizen of the Czech Republic.

Based on the investigation, the police arrested David Minadio from Italy for smuggling LSD into Nepal. The authorities discovered 10,98 LSD tabs, 38 grams of methamphetamine, 139,000 Indian rupees, and 700 Euros in David’s hotel room in Thamel, where he was staying.

It has been revealed through the investigation that David entered Nepal via India.

“After putting LSD on the tongue, it dissolves on its own and creates a buzz for hours. Such a large quantity of these drugs had not been recovered in Nepal before,” said SP Joshi.
