Kathmandu District Court sends 16 including Khand, Rayamajhi to judicial custody

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court on Friday issued an order to send 16 out of the 18 individuals, arrested in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, to judicial custody.

Among the 16 individuals are former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, and former Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey.

After a detention hearing that lasted over a week, Judge Prem Prasad Neupane of the Kathmandu District Court ordered the imprisonment of the 16 individuals, with the exception of Tanka Gurung and Laxmi Maharjan.

The court, however, ordered to release Gurung and Maharjan on bail of Rs 1 million and Rs 500,000 respectively
