SC seeks documents on authenticated Citizenship bill

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday gave continuity to the short-term interim order that was issued earlier by the court. The court, earlier on June 4, had issued a short-term interim order on a writ petition filed against the authentication of the citizenship bill.

A joint bench of Justices Prakash Singh Raut and Sushma Lata Mathem today ordered the government to present a copy of the authenticated citizenship bill and a copy of the decision taken by the cabinet on May 26 regarding the Citizenship Bill.

The next hearing on the case is scheduled for Tuesday.

President Ram Chandra Poudel had on May 31 authenticated the Citizenship Bill after the cabinet send a letter to the Office of the President regarding the authentication.

Senior Advocate Surendra Bhandari had moved the apex court against President Paudel’s authentication of the bill.
