Parties including major opposition obstruct House

KATHMANDU: A session of the House of Representatives today has been put off for some moments following the obstruction of the opposition parties including the major opposition CPN (UML).

Once the session commenced, the UML, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmakers protested demanding discussions on the certification of the Citizenship Bill and on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s India visit in the House.

The opposition parties have sought the House to reply about the assent of the Bill by the President and of the Prime Minister’s India visit.

UML Chief Whip Padam Giri demanded the registration of a fresh Citizenship Bill in the House as per the constitutional procedures, insisting on the need of addressing the issues of citizenship through the same document by endorsing it within a week of the tabulation.

He accused the government of reviving the Bill and recommending it for certification against the spirit of the Constitution. RSS
