Chaudhary, Pandey stake claim for CM post in Lumbini, Gandaki Provinces

KATHMANDU: Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary and Surendra Raj Pandey of the Nepali Congress (NC) have staked their claim to the post of Chief Ministers in Lumbini and Gandaki Provinces respectively.

Chaudhary presented the claim for the post before the Lumbini Province Chief Amik Sherchan today.

Lumbini Province Chief Sherchan on Tuesday had called on parties for the formation of a new government after the Chief Minister of CPN (UML)-led government, Leela Giri, failed to secure vote of confidence on Monday.

With the signatures of 53 members of the provincial assembly, Chaudhary presented the claim for the same. Chaudhary has the support of CPN (Maoist Centre), Janata Samajbadi Party, Loktantrik Samajbadi, Nagarik Unmukti Party, Janamat Party Nepal, Rastriya Janamorcha and CPN (Unified Socialist).

Similarly, Pandey also presented the claim for the post before the Gandaki Province Chief Prithvi Man Gurung this afternoon.

Pandey presented the claim for the post with the signatures of 35 lawmakers.

He has the support of Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Centre) and  CPN (Unified Socialist).

There are total 87 lawmakers in the Lumbini Province and 60 lawmakers in the Gandaki Province.
