PM Dahal wins vote of confidence

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal won the vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on Monday.

In the 275-member strong Parliament, he garnered 172 votes while 89 lawmakers cast votes against him.

The CPN-UML and the Rastriya Swatantra Party did not vote for Dahal.

The Nepal Workers and Peasants Party stayed neutral.

Dahal’s party CPN (Maoist Centre), Nepal Congress, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Janata Samajbadi Party, CPN (Unified Socialist), Janamat Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party, Democratic Socialist Party, Rastriya Janamorcha and Aam Janata Party gave a vote of confidence.

Earlier, while he had sought a vote of confidence on January 10, he had secured 268 votes out of 270 lawmakers presented in the Parliament.

Dahal sought a vote of confidence for the second time after he left the seven-party alliance under the CPN-UML and stood in favour of the coalition formed before the election.
