Nepal retains ODI status defeating UAE by 177 runs

KATHMANDU: Nepal retained its One Day International (ODI) status by defeating UAE by 177 runs in the ongoing triangular series under the ICC World Cup Cricket League 2 on Sunday.

The match was held at TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.

With the win, the hope of Nepal to qualify for the global qualifier of the ICC World Cup has increased.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Nepal scored 248 runs in 49.2 overs, losing all ten wickets.

Nepal’s outstanding bowling performance in the second innings restricted UAE to 71 runs in 22.5 overs.

On the batting side, Skipper Rohit Paudel scored the highest 77 runs off 122 balls for Nepal.

Similarly, Aarif Sheikh and Gulshan Jha scored 43 and 37 runs respectively, while Dipendra Singh Airee contributed 34 runs.

Aayan Afzal Khan, Ashwanth Valthapa, and Karthik Meiyappan made 29, 14, and 11 runs respectively for UAE.

On the bowling side, Lalit Singh claimed five wickets in 7.5 overs for Nepal.

Likewise, Sandeep Lamichhane took two wickets while Sompal Kami, Airee, and Gulshan Jha each took one wicket each.
