SC issues show cause notice in Dahal’s name

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice in the name of CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Hearing the writ petitions filed by advocates Gyanendra Raj Aran and Kalyan Budhathoki, a single bench of Justice Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada issued the order on Friday.

The bench ordered Dahal to furnish a written clarification within 15 days on why not to issue an interim order as demanded by the petitioners.

Addressing a programme on January 15, 2020, Dahal, who led the 10-year long Maoist insurgency from 1996 to 2006, had said that he would take the responsibility for the deaths of 5, 000 people and the state should take the responsibility for killing 12, 000 people.

At least 17, 000 people lost their lives during the decade-long Maoist insurgency.

The advocates duo filed the writs demanding that the court issue an order to arrest Dahal over the war-era cases.
