Government decides to register bill to amend TRC Act today

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to register the bill to amend the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act in the House of Representatives today.

A Cabinet meeting held on Thursday morning made the decision to this effect.

The government showed interest in the bill after writ petitions were filed against Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal for claiming responsibility for 5,000 insurgency-era deaths three years ago.

Issuing a joint statement on Tuesday, the Maoist factions said that all the cases related to transitional justice should be taken forward through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The hearing of the writs has been scheduled for today.
