8 Maoist factions decide to counter activities against peace agreement and changes

KATHMANDU: Leaders of the eight Maoist factions have decided to unitedly counter any kind of activities that are against the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and changes.

A joint meeting of the Maoist factions held in Baluwatar on Tuesday stressed on taking ahead all the issues related to transitional justice through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons.

The meeting has also urged the government to promptly take the initiative for the legal and institutional arrangements to conclude the remaining tasks of the peace process.

“We are also clear that the activities against the process of transitional justice will not help implement the Comprehensive Peace Agreement,” a statement issued after the meeting read. “We are ready to counter any kind of activities that are against the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and changes.”

“The state should also implement the agreements signed at various times,” the statement further read.

Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepal Samajbadi Party Chairman Baburam Bhattarai, CPN (Revolutionary Maoist) Chairman Mohan Baidhya, Communist Party of Nepal General Secretary Netra Bikram Chand, NCP Bahumat Party leader Dharmendra Bastola and CPN Samajbadi Party Chairman Karnajit Budhathoki were present in the meeting.
