EC issues election code of conduct for presidential, vice-presidential election

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has issued the election code of conduct-2023 for the election to the post of President and Vice-President.

The election code of conduct will come into effect from tomorrow.

As per the EC’s decision on January 30, the election to the post of President will be held on March 9 and the Vice-President on March 17. There are 882 voters for the election.

Nomination for the election to the post of President has already been filed on February 25 after establishing an office of the Election Officer and the candidacy could be withdrawn till 4:00 pm today. Similarly, the final list of candidates would be published today itself.

A press release issued today by EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel said that the EC issued the election code of conduct in exercise of the rights granted by Article-22 of the Election Commission Act-2073 for the election.

The same election code of conduct was implemented for the election to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly on November 20.

As per the EC, the election code of conduct would be implemented for the government and ministers of federal parliament, Province Assembly members, the provincial governments and their ministers, employees of federation, province and local-level, security bodies, civil servants, security personnel, government, semi-government and public organisations and their employees, political parties and their sister organisations, candidates, their representatives, public post holders, media houses, media persons and the voters.
