KATHMANDU: Democratic Socialist Party leaders met Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba with the demand to make Mahantha Thakur the country’s new President.

Saying that Thakur is the appropriate candidate for the post of President, the DSP leaders reached Dhumbarahi to seek support of Deuba for the President.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Nepali Congress leaders, however, have been seeking a candidate of national consensus for the President.

Purna Bahadur Khadka was also with the Prime Minister during the meeting.

Emerging from the meeting, DSP leader Sharad Singh Bhandhari said that they have received a positive response from Deuba.

“Thakur is an appropriate character for the President. We will also discuss the issue within the party. The Congress has not fielded its official candidate yet. We are in the alliance,” Bhandari told journalists quoting Deuba.

Earlier on Tuesday, the DSP leader held a meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Saying that they had also reached Balkot, Bhandari said that they would urge all the parties in the Parliament.
