Six arrested for setting fire to police vans during protest in Machhapokhari

KATHMANDU: Police on Wednesday arrested six individuals for their involvement in setting fire to two police vans and vandalizing a police beat in Machhapokhari Chowk in Kathmandu.

The incident took place during a protest organized by transport workers and entrepreneurs in Kathmandu’s Balaju-Machhapokari area on Monday.

The arrestees have been identified as Bikram Rai, Ramhari Bhandari, Bibek Shrestha, Rajesh Tamang, Ashish Khadka, and Dipendra Pun Magar.

The police identified them based on videos that were posted on social media.

The protesters had set fire to two police vehicles having registration numbers Ba 2 Ja 144 and Ba 1 Ja 7224.

Similarly, Police have taken 10 other people into custody on suspicion of their involvement in the riot and are currently being investigated.
