One killed, 25 houses damaged in Bajura earthquake

KAILALI: A woman died in an earthquake in Bajura on Tuesday.

Jamuna Rokaya (35) died after she was hit by a boulder that came rolling down from above following the earthquake at Jureli in Gaimul Rural Municipality of the district, District Police Office, Bajura said.

DSP Surya Thapa, Chief at the District Police Office, Bajura, said that the incident occurred while she had gone to a nearby forest to collect fodder.

He said that a team of police are heading towards the incident site.

An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck Bajura district today.

The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre said that the tremor was felt at 2: 43 pm local time with its epicentre Mela of Bajura.

DSP Thapa said that 25 houses have been damaged in the district so far.
