Hikmat Karki stakes claim for CM post in Province 1

BIRATNAGAR: CPN-UML Parliamentary Party leader Hikmat Karki has staked claim for the post of Chief Minister in Province 1 with the support of 60 lawmakers.

Karki staked his claim for the post of Chief Minister with the support of all the lawmakers apart from 93 lawmakers of the Nepali Congress and CPN (Unified Socialist).

Karki was supported by 40 Province Assembly members of the UML, 13 of CPN (Maoist Center), six of Rastriya Prajatantra Party and one of Janata Samajbadi Party.

The Province Chief had set a deadline of today to form a new government with the support of two or more than two parties after no single party secured a majority in the Province Assembly.

Karki staked claim for the post of Chief Minister in the given time frame.

At least 47 lawmakers are required to form a majority government in the Province.
