Thapa announces not to join government (With video)

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa, who lost the election to the Parliamentary Party leader with party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, made it clear he would not join the government.

Talking to journalists after the announcement of the results, he said that a door has been opened for the Nepali Congress to lead the government after the Parliamentary Party election.

Leader Thapa said that the party would not take the ownership if an agreement is made to lead the government on rotation basis without the party’s knowledge.

“I am not upset with this result. Instead I will make preparations to contest the Parliamentary Party election next time,” he said.

He lost the election by a margin of 39 votes.

Deuba obtained 64 votes while Thapa garnered 25 votes.
