NC Gen Secy Sharma opposes govt decision to bring ordinance to grant amnesty to Chaudhary

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwo Prakash Sharma has strongly opposed the decision of the government to bring an ordinance to grant amnesty to Resham Chaudhary, who is serving a life term in connection to the Tikapur carnage of August 2015.

He said that the decision of the government to issue an ordinance to give amnesty particularly to Chaudhary, a leader of Nagarik Unmukti Party, is completely wrong.

Taking to Twitter, he said: “What is true when on the street is true in the Parliament. It is completely wrong to bring the ordinance without holding discussions with the party leaders and leaders of other parties.”

Sharma, who was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Jhapa in the recently concluded elections, said that this is not a legal and political question but morals are also connected in the case.

He has also mentioned the prime minister in his tweet.

Another General Secretary Gagan Thapa and Vice-President Dhan Raj Gurung have not spoken anything on the issue.

Earlier, they had advocated that the accused of the Tikapur carnage in which eight people including a toddler were killed should not be granted amnesty on the basis of political negotiation.

The government on Sunday had decided to issue an ordinance to grant amnesty to anyone convicted of heinous crimes.
