EC seeks clarification from Rabi Lamichhane on citizenship issue

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) sought clarification from the chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party Rabi Lamichhane on the citizenship issue on Wednesday.

A complaint was filed at the EC on Tuesday seeking the cancellation of Lamichhane’s candidacy. Lamichanne is a candidate from Chitwan-2 to the House of Representatives elections.

The complaint was filed stating that Lamichannne did not renounce his Nepali citizenship after obtaining citizenship of a foreign country.

Chief Election Officer Ritendra Thapa told Nepal Press over the phone that the office of the Chief Election Officer asked for the clarification within seven days.
