UML leader critically injured as Abdus Miya’s election team attacked in Gorkha

POKHARA: An election team of CPN-UML candidate Abdus Miya, who is contesting the election for a seat in the federal House of Representatives from Gorkha district constituency-2, has been attacked on Sunday.

It has been learnt that they were having dinner at the Mango Resort in Palungtar, where Miya has been staying for the past few days, when a group of unidentified persons attacked them last night.

Miya was not in the resort when the incident occurred.

Police said that UML Province Secretariat member Hari Kafle sustained a deep cut on his head.

Kafle, who got seven stitches to close his wound, has been taken to Kathmandu for further treatment.

Lila Raj Lamichhane, spokesperson at the District Police Office, Gorkha, said that they have arrested Ram Sapkota and Ajit Panta for investigation. The three others, who are involved in the attack, are on the run.

According to Ashwain Dani, a member of the election team, he had received a call from an unknown number two days ago and said that he was a member of the YCL and threatened of taking life.

CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is in the competition from the alliance in this constituency.
