Comedian Apoorwa Kshitiz Singh released on bail of Rs 250,000

KATHMANDU: Standup comedian Apoorwa Khsitiz Singh, who was arrested on the charge of making derogatory comments against the Newar community, has been released on bail on Thursday.

The Kathmandu District Court released Singh this evening after bail of Rs 250,000 was paid on his behalf.

Earlier today, the court had ordered the release of Singh on bail of Rs 250,000 after the bail hearing.

The Kathmandu District Attorney Office had filed a chargesheet against Singh demanding one to five years in jail on four different charges.

Comedian Singh was arrested on August 28 after multiple complaints were filed against him for making derogatory remarks about the culture and tradition of the Newar community during his standup comedy show.
