8 killed, 24 injured as missiles hit Ukraine’s Kyiv; Russia trying to wipe us, says Zelensky

At least 8 people died and 24 others were injured after Russian missiles hit Kyiv, a Ukrainian official told BNO News, India Today reported.

Ukraine’s capital Kyiv was hit by a series of loud explosions on early Monday. Large explosions have been reported in Kyiv following the sound of incoming missiles, reported AP.There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Explosions were also reported in Lviv, Ternopil and Zhytomyr in Ukraine’s west, and in Dnipro in central Ukraine, Reuters reported.The spokesperson for the Emergency Service in Kyiv told the AP that there are killed and wounded people. Rescuers are now working in different locations, said Svitlana Vodolaga.

As many as four explosions were heard around the city today morning and smoke was reported to be seen rising from one spot in the center, The Kyiv Independent said in a report.

Confirming the development on Telegram, Kyiv’s Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that the Ukraine city has been rocked by multiple explosions and emergency services were on site.The explosions took place around 8:15 am with air raid sirens sounding in Kyiv more than an hour before the blasts, reports said.

The US ambassador to Ukraine Bridget A Brink termed the attacks, “itsbarrage of attacks on Ukrainian civilians.

“Several explosions in the Shevchenkivskyi district- in the centre of the capital,” Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said on social media.

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said that there have been casualties in missile attacks across Ukraine, adding thatRussia is ‘trying to destroy us and wipe us off the face of the Earth’.

The attack on Kyiv and other cities came after an explosion caused the partial collapse of a bridge linking the Crimean Peninsula with Russia on October 8, killing three people.
