EC to take action against 123, 000 local level candidates who have not submitted spending details

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has decided to take action against 123, 000 candidates who have not submitted the details of the election expenses even months after the conclusion of the local level elections.

The poll body has taken the process ahead to take action against 115, 131 candidates who have not submitted the election expenses and 8, 652 candidates who submitted the expenses after the given time frame.

They have been asked to furnish clarification within seven days why action should not be taken against them, Joint Secretary Shaligram Sharma, who is also the spokesperson of the Election Commission.

Among the participated candidates, only 21, 230 candidates submitted the details of the expenses within the stipulated time.

There is a provision that the candidates are required to submit the details of the election expenses to the concerned district or province  election offices within 30 days of the announcement of the results.
