Nepal bans imports of 10 luxurious items including alcohol, mobile phones till mid-July

KATHMANDU: The government has tightened imports in a bid to control the growing trade deficits and depleting foreign exchange reserves.

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies banned  the imports of 10 luxury items by publishing them in the Nepal Gazette.

The imports of 10 luxury items which include mobile phones, motorcycles exceeding  250 cc, alcohol, tobacco products and toys have been bannedtill mid-July. Vehicles like Jeep, Car, and Van are also included in the banned list.

Similarly, the government also banned imports of goods including Kurmure and Lays.

The ban will last until mid-July 2022, the end of the current fiscal year.
