SC directs govt not to implement code on reps’ resignation

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued an interim order directing the government not to immediately implement the Election Commission’s code of conduct requiring incumbent local representatives to resign from their post before filing nominations for the local elections.

A single bench of Justice Bam Kumar Shrestha on Tuesday issued a show cause notice.

Responding to a writ petition filed by Helambu Rural Municipality Chairman Nimal Gyaljan Sherpa of Sindhupalchok, the Election Commission issued the order not to immediately implement the code of conduct.
