Impeachment motion was registered against CJ Rana to protect judicial rights of people: NC

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress has clarified that the impeachment motion was filed against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana to protect the judicial rights of the people.

A Central Executive Committee of the Nepali Congress said that the impeachment motion was filed to end the deadlock of the Supreme Court.

Party spokesperson Prakash Sharan Mahat said that the meeting discussed contemporary political issues and an impeachment motion registered against Chief Justice Rana.

At the beginning of the meeting, government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Karki formally informed that the impeachment motion has been registered against Chief Justice Rana.

“We always wanted that the deadlock at the Supreme Court be resolved through talks and cooperation among the stakeholders of the judiciary. The lawmakers of the House of Representatives filed the impeachment motion to pave the way out,” Mahat said.

The Executive Committee meeting of the party that started from Thursday focused on registering an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Rana on Sunday.
